Garrard 301 turntables are classic in terms of design and manufacture. These turntables are one of the best turntables in terms of performance and that classic look and are the result of over 80 years of experience and hard work. These turntables maximize the enjoyment of the music recorded on vinyl records. Introduced in 1954, these classic turntables were usually sold as a bare chassis without plinth, tonearm and cartridge. The Garrard 301 is one of the all time classic pieces of truly great hi-fi. Largely forgotten about until the early nineties, there was resurgence in interest as people started partnering these decks with new rigid tone arms such as the SME V and the Rega RB300.
Some of the important features of this turntable are, it is made from diecast aluminum (chassis and platter), weight 16 lbs. (6 lbs. for the platter), shaded pole induction motor (magnetically screened) suspended on springs, speed range 32 to 34, 44 to 46 and 76 to 80 r.p.m. approx. The Garrard 301 was finally replaced in 1964 by the 401, a similar idle wheel design with a more modern look. If properly cared for and restored, the Garrard 301 will still continue to give years of musical enjoyment.
